GARRETT, WELDON Thomas Weldon Garrett, 76, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, after a courageous battle and a long fight with emphysema and COPD. He died peacefully and entered into his Lord’s presence along with his grandson Ron with his family by his side. Life celebration services will be held at 1:30pm Tuesday, July 6, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. John Carroll officiating and reflecting back on fond memories. Burial will follow at Patrick Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 – 8pm Monday, July 5, at the funeral home. Mr. Garrett was born July 7, 1927, in China Spring to Thomas Womach and Ren Hester Stewart Garrett. After serving in WWII in the U. S. Army stationed in the Philippines, he returned home in 1946. He married Dorothy Mae Hixson on November 21, 1947. This union was blessed in 1950 with one daughter, Linda. Weldon worked as a farmer and also worked in a furniture store until 1954. He worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Plant for 30 years before retiring in 1984. After retirement he worked in his small engine shop at home for many years and ran his farm and raised cows which always became large pets. Due to progressing health problems he was forced to let go of both of these hobbies in 2000. His pride and joy was the son that he never had, his grandson, Ron Hubbard born in 1971. Weldon loved the Lord and was a devout Christian and served as an elder at the Harvest House of Prayer Church. He loved to go camping and follow Blue Grass festivals around Texas with all the “gang”. He loved playing “42” with all of his friends. He was a humble man with a kind heart for all who knew him and he never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his grandson Ron in 1994, his parents and sisters, Dora Garrett of Waco and Ina Brumfield of San Antonio. His hard work and know-how will be sorely missed by his survivors, his lifelong friend and wife of 56 years, Dorothy Dot Garrett, his daughter, Linda Hubbard and husband Ronald of Patrick and many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers will be Larry Goains, Mark Lantrip, Michael Anderson, Bo Blair, Donald Hubbard and Brandon Hixson. The family will be gathering at the home of his daughter, Linda, at Patrick.
