Veta Lindsey

September 18, 1915 — March 27, 2008

Veta Lindsey September 18, 1915 March 27, 2008 Veta Lindsey, of Waco, formerly of Whittier, California, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, March 29, at Whitehall Cemetery in Woodway, TX., with Dr. Glen Hilburn and Rev. Ronny Higgins officiating. Veta was born on September 18, 1915, to Josiah and Minnie Bright Lindsey. She was the only daughter among five sons born to the couple. She attended schools in the Waco area, graduated from Waco High School and attended Baylor University. She later graduated from San Marcos Teachers College. Veta's entire adult life was dedicated to loving and educating children. In 1949 she opened Lindsey Kindergarten and Nursery School in Whittier, California, which grew to eight grades. She continued to lead the school and teach until she closed the school in 2002. Countless lives were touched by Veta who loved her students like they were her very own children. She began the first Cystic Fibrosis Unit in Whittier when the need arose for one of her students. In 1999 the city of La Mirada, CA, where her school was located, issued a proclamation commending Veta for "dedicating her life and that of Lindsey Schools to the Lord, and of offering aid and counsel for children and their parents." Veta loved Jesus and loved people and this was reflected throughout her whole life. Her focus always was found in Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Veta had an endearing sense of humor and an incredible spirit and strength. Her family now celebrates her full life and her great reward in Heaven. Veta was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Curtis Lindsey, George Lindsey, and Joe Ray Lindsey. She is survived by brothers, Ted Lindsey of Gholson, and Truett Lindsey and wife, Theresa, of Woodway; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Ridgecrest Nursing staff for their loving care and attention and also Bluebonnet Hospice for their care.
