Stone, Virginia July 12, 1910 – October 12, 2005 Virginia Stone, 95, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 11:30 AM Friday, October 14 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Danny Tenney officiating. Virginia was born in July 12, 1910 to Frank Arthur and Nellie Mitchell Craven in Lubbock, Texas. She moved to Waco following the death of her mother when Virginia was ten. Her education was completed in Waco Public Schools, graduating from Waco High in 1927. She attended Four C Commercial College and married furniture dealer Cleveland Witt, Sr. Later in life she married Marvin E. Stone who died in 1992. Playing the piano and organ were her favorite hobbies. She was an active member of Austin Avenue Methodist Church where she served as pianist for the Hartsfield Sunday School Class for 50 years. She also performed the same role at the Regis/St. Elizabeth and Providence Park Chapel services during her residency at the two facilities. She was an avid artist and her home was a wall to wall gallery of her paintings. She studied art with Marguerite Smith and served as president of the Waco Art League. Virginia had a flair for life which earned her the fond nickname of “Auntie Mame” by her family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Craven and wife, Ruth. She is survived by; sister Norma Bartley, son, Cleveland Witt, Jr. and wife, Martha Wilson Witt; daughter, Sondra Burch and husband, Jack; grandchildren, Cam Witt and wife, Karen, Larry Witt and wife, Jerrie, Caralee Gurney and husband, Jeff, Bryce Burch, Tracy Burch and wife Tracy, Ben Burch and wife Genie; nine great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and nephews, Stephen and Frank Craven. Our heartfelt thanks to her caregivers at Regis/St. Elizabeth’s/St. Catherines at Providence Park Hospice, Cindy Metcalf, Diane Dixon and Sharon Clark.
