Wesley Ree Vowell August 22, 1936 - March 28, 2011 Wesley Ree Vowell,"Young Wes", of Waco passed away Monday, March 28, 2011. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 1, at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 31, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Wesley was born August 22, 1936, in Henderson, Texas, to Mattie and Ila Vowell. He was a TV pioneer in the early broadcasts of KWTX Channel 10 as "Young Wes" on the Uncle Elihu Show. He had a lifelong interest in music and song writing and performed on the Louisiana Hay Ride and the Big D Jamboree. In his later years, he was the owner of Vowell Furniture Refinishing Shop, carrying on the work of his father. Wesley was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. He married his high school sweetheart, one of the Diamond twins, Winona Diamond, in 1967. He is survived by his wife, Winona; one son, Lance Vowell; two daughters, Cindy Tofanelli and Susan Snodgrass and husband, Willie; two brothers, Gene Vowell and James Vowell and his wife, Codette; three grandsons, Adam Smith and wife, Lauren, Keith Richter and Chris Snodgrass; and one great granddaughter, Evie.
