William Edmond "Ed" Christie

William Edmond Christie April 19, 1939 May 14, 2013 William Edmond Ed Christie, 74, of Palestine and formerly of Houston, died at his home on May 14, 2013. A graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m., Saturday, May 25, at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas, with the Rev. Jordan Byrd of the First Christian Church of Palestine officiating. Following the service a gathering for family and friends is to be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco. Mr. Christie was born April 19, 1939, in San Antonio, to the late WWII Veteran Alonzo Bee Christie, Jr., M.D. and Mary Penland Christie. After graduating from Sewanee Military Academy in 1958, Ed attended the University of Texas. In that time period, Ed met, married and started his family with his cherished and beloved wife of 52 years, Carol Ann Mundel Christie, who preceded him in death this year. Ed was a recognized innovator in contemporary yacht sail production in the Gulf Coast area. His passion for sailing was instrumental in the creation of the custom sail, rigging and canvas business in Houston, C&C Sailmakers. A lifelong sailing enthusiast, Ed participated and excelled in many regattas in Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth, as well as the TORC Circuit and Regatta de Amigo in Veracruz, Mexico. He wasn't called "Fast Eddie" for nothing! Ed loved good food, good wine and a good time. He was a wonderful storyteller, and his zest for life was evident in the many tales he told. Mr. Christie is survived by his son, Will Christie of Houston; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anna and Dr. Relvert Coe of Palestine; three grandchildren, twins, Madeleine Penland Coe and Sophie Christie Coe and Nicholas Edmond Coe; his brothers, Alonzo Bee Christie and wife, Marie Louise, of Dallas, James Harvey Christie of Palestine, and George Penland Christie and wife, Ellen, of Galveston. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the First Christian Church of Palestine, 113 E. Crawford Street, Palestine TX 75801.
