NELSON, WILLIAM H. BILL William H. Bill Nelson, 82, of Woodway, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at a local hospital. Services will be at 3:30 p. m. Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Garry Bone officiating. Entombment will be at Waco Memorial Mausoleum. Visitation with the family will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Nelson was born June 25, 1921 in Hutto, Texas to William H. & Leonta Ozment Nelson. He graduated from Taft High School in 1939. He attended Schriner’s Military Institute in Kerrville and graduated in 1941. He was a veteran of WWII U. S. Navy. He served on the USS Strong & USS Stephen Potter. He married LaVerne Brittain February 11, 1946 in Taft. He graduated from University of Texas in 1948 and went to work for Humble Oil Co. which later became Exxon and retired in 1982. They were longtime residents of Midland and moved to Waco in 1982. .Mr. Nelson was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne Nelson; daughter, Jan Spoede and husband Trey of Woodway; sons, Britt Nelson and wife Melinda of Arlington and Terry Nelson and wife Carol of Houston; grandchildren, Brittainy Holmes and husband Bradley, Hunter Spoede, Rachel, Erin, Zachary, Matthew, Adam and Joey Nelson, and Blake and Eric Nelson; great granddaughter, Taryn Holmes; numerous nieces and nephews.
