Ann Caldwell (Mamie) passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023 at her home. Graveside services will be Thursday, January 26 at 2 pm at Kirk Cemetery with Father Walter Dhanwar officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 25 from 5-7 pm at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.
Ann grew up on a dirt road in Lott, Texas and walked 2 ½ miles to school every day; she had no electricity growing up and only coal oil lamps, and a wood-burning stove to cook on. After high school, she went to work at Central Freight Lines. In 1953, she married Ernest Caldwell and they were married for 50 years until his death in 2003. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Parrish in Elk, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Francis Michalewicz; her husband, Ernest Caldwell; her son, Charles Caldwell Sr.; grandsons, Joshua Caldwell, John Caldwell Jr., and Michael Caldwell; and great-granddaughter, Katharine Tompkins.
Survivors include sons, James Caldwell and wife Cindy, of Axtell, and John Caldwell and wife Sharon, of Clifton; daughter-in-law, Sandra Caldwell Holder and husband Jerry, of Ben Hur; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Caldwell, Charles Caldwell Jr., Michael Caldwell, Dawson Graham, Jayson Bradley, and Jordan Bradley.
