HARLOW, BELVA Belva McCoy Harlow, age 82, of Waco passed away Friday, April 5, 2002 after a brief battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, April 8 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Steve Dominy, pastor of First Baptist Church, Gatesville officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 3:00-5:00PM Sunday, April 7 at the funeral home. The daughter of B. E. and Genie Weeks McCoy, Mrs. Harlow was born on January 5, 1920, in Turnersville, Texas, and grew up in Gatesville. After graduating from Gatesville High School in 1937, she received her degree from North Texas State University in 1941. Before and during World War II she taught school in El Campo, where she met C. Leonard Harlow. The two married on June 2, 1943, and lived most of their lives in Waco. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Huron McCoy. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker in addition to assisting her husband in their commercial building business, C. L. Harlow Building Contractor. With the God-given gift to play the piano and organ by ear, music was a vital part of Mrs. Harlow’s life. Her love of music was her gift to family and friends, and by her music, she touched many lives through social organizations and groups of family and friends. The last twelve years she and her sister have entertained many senior adult groups throughout Central Texas. Mrs. Harlow was a member of Tejanas Study Club in which she held numerous offices. In 1998, she researched and compiled a history of the Waco Federation of Women’s Clubs to commemorate its first 100 years. She was also a member of The Presidents Club, The Monday Bridge Club, and Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. She shared her gift of hospitality with neighbors, friends, and organizations such as the Family Abuse Center. She is survived by two daughters and their families, Carol Gene Graves and husband, Allan of Waco and Susan Woods of Austin; four grandchildren: Tim Graves of Boston, Massachusetts, Pam Graves of Waco, John Woods and Sara Woods of Austin; one sister, Rose Ella Place and husband, Dwain of Gatesville, and two nephews, Allen Place of Gatesville and Mike McCoy of Corsicana. Pallbearers will be family members, Allan Graves, Tim Graves, Mike McCoy, Allen Place, Dwain Place, and John Woods. The family would like to express their gratitude to doctors and staff at Scott and White Hospital, Coryell Memorial Hospital, and Hillcrest Community Hospice, and to Joyce Rosas, special caregiver during her illness. Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity or Hillcrest Community Hospice. The family will be at 501 Wooded Crest Drive in Woodway. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
