Betty Sue (Grayson) Brooks, 95, of Waco, passed away on July 16, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Care Center in Waco.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, located at 6101 Bosque Boulevard in Waco. The funeral service will take place at the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel on Wednesday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Kip Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Betty was born on March 29, 1930, in Erath, Texas, to William and Mollie Grayson, the youngest of four children. She grew up in the Erath and China Spring areas and attended school in China Spring. She graduated from Waco High School in 1947.
Betty was employed at First National Bank of Waco, Texas Power and Light, Western Heights Baptist Church, the Waco State Home, and Waco Savings and Loan. She was a member of the Lonestar Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, where she served as president and was named Woman of the Year. She was also a longtime member of Western Heights Baptist Church.
Betty met her future husband, Wallace Brooks, while they were both employed at First National Bank of Waco. They were married on August 20, 1949. The couple lived in Germany while Wallace served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, and afterward, they returned home to Waco. Betty and Wallace loved entertaining friends, family, and neighbors at their home as well as at their weekend house at Lake Mexia. They also enjoyed traveling with friends and family and sharing memories of their many trips throughout the world.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Wallace Brooks; her sisters, Margaret Pierce and Dorothy Jane Ruff; her brother, Bill Grayson; and her niece, Shirley Grube. She is survived by great-nieces Betty Kiowski and Laura Meredith, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family wishes to extend special appreciation to the staff at Stoney Brook of Hewitt, St. Anthony’s Care Center, and Bluebonnet Hospice.
