Carl D. McIntosh May 17, 1927 February 12, 2009 Carl D. McIntosh, retired brigadier general and past owner-president of Oasis Water Company, Inc., died on February 13, 2009, at home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, at Austin Avenue United Methodist with The Rev. Charles Mesa officiating. Visitation will follow the service in Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery prior to the service. Carl was born in Brownwood, TX, on May 17, 1927, to Blanche Eaton and Carl Daniel McIntosh. He moved to Waco with his family in 1939. He graduated from the Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX, and received a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A & M University in 1950. He was a Registered Professional Engineer for over 50 years and a commercial-rated pilot. During World War II, Brigadier General McIntosh served 22 months as an enlisted man in the Navy. He was commissioned a 2nd LT in the Army in 1948 and was recalled to active duty with the combat engineers in West Germany from 1950-53. During this time he was honored by the Dutch government for flood disaster relief work and repair of The Netherlands dikes. In November 1978 he was recalled again to active duty and served as Deputy Chief of Army Reserve at the Pentagon in Washington, D. C. In 1982 he received the Merit Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area from the Secretary of the Army and Chief of Staff. Upon retirement from active duty in February 1983, after 38 years as a reservist, General McIntosh was honored with the Army's Distinguished Service Medal for Exceptionally Meritorious Service. In 1991 he was awarded the Army's Distinguished Member of the Corps of Engineers and in 2005 he received the Bronze Order of the de Fleury medal for inspirational leadership. Prior to his active duty assignment at the Pentagon, Carl was commanding officer of the 420th Engineer Brigade headquartered at Bryan, Texas. He was a graduate of the following military schools: The US Amy Engineering School; the Quartermaster School; Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS; Industrial College of the Armed Forces; the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, PA; and the NATO School at Oberammergua, West Germany. Carl was married to Janis Hicks on September 1, 1948. He was owner and chief executive officer of the Oasis Water Company of Waco and San Benito from 1953 to 1981 at which time the business was sold to The Perrier group of Greenwich, CT. He has held positions as Industrial Engineer with Lone Star Gas Company, Assistant Director of Public Works with the City of Waco, consulting engineer positions with Waco Brick Manufacturing Company, Central Butane Company, Oasis Lawn Sprinkler, The Perrier Group, and Board of Directors of Star Finance Corp. Carl was president of the Waco Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Rotary District Roll of Fame. He was past member of Urban Renewal and Planning Commission, Texas Bottled Water Association, Texas Turf Irrigation Association, Republican Party County Chairman, Retired Officer's Association, Chairman of the Commissioners of the Methodist Home, Montessori School Board, first president of Clean Community Systems Keep Waco Beautiful, Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, and Director of United Bank of Waco, City of Waco Board of Adjustment, Evangelia Settlement Board, Trustee of McLennan County Community College. He was an Eagle Scout and received the Boy Scout's Wood Badge in 1995 and the Silver Beaver Award in 1996. He was past District Chairman of Teha Lanna District of Heart O' Texas Council Boy Scouts of America and past president of the Heart O'Texas Council. Carl was a member of the Administrative Board of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church where he has served as chairman of the Evangelism, Stewardship, and Pastor-Parish Relationship, Council on Ministries, Trustees, and Finance Committees. He taught the Genesis Class for many years and then became a member of the Pathfinders Class. He was a member of the Commission on Church Growth and Development and member of the Annual Conference of The Central Texas Conference of The Methodist Church and was District Lay Leader. He was on the Board of Commissions of the Methodist Children's Home. In 1998 he and his wife Janis were selected Methodist Lay Members of the year. Carl is preceded in death by his mother and father; a sister, Betty Jackson; and his stepfather, A. P. Rowland. McIntosh is survived by his wife, Janis; four sons, Carl Daniel McIntosh III and wife, Carol, of Waco, Donald Edward McIntosh and wife, Karen, of Katy, Dewitt Hicks McIntosh "Dee" of Colleyville, Joel Eaton McIntosh of Austin; one daughter, Mary Lou Glaesmann and husband, Ronnie, of Waco; 12 grandchildren: Dee Ann Baggett, Melissa Ellis, Mindy McIntosh, Heidi Bright, Dani McIntosh, Christopher McIntosh, Alexander McIntosh, Christina McIntosh, Daniel McIntosh, Clint Glaesmann, Todd Glaesmann, and Sam Glaesmann; seven great-grandchildren: Blake Baggett, Libby Baggett, Luke Baggett, Ben Baggett, Garrett Robken, Bella Bright, and Caitlyn Bright.
