Chester Roberts, Jr.

Chester Roberts, Jr., passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021. Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 10, at Doris Miller Memorial Park with Rev. Melvin Petty officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 9, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Chester was born March 3, 1924, in Brenham, Texas, to Chester and Eliza Roberts. Chester was educated in a small classroom with only a 9th grade education. He worked at Crawford Austin Mattress at the age of 17. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served 3 years. He was married to Ceola Mae Williams in 1946 until her death in 1981. He worked at Walgreens, downtown Waco, the Cotton Gin and Texas Power and Light. He became a welder for Central Texas Iron Works and retired from there in 1989. After retirement, his main goal became the next 1000-piece puzzle, which he solved very well and quite often. He was a faithful member of Greater Mt Olive Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he served as a member of choir, usher board, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and a Deacon until his health would no longer allow him to serve. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ceola Mae Roberts; brothers, Jimmy, Andrew and Modester Roberts; his sister, Mary Roberts; and his twin sister, Hester Grant. He is survived by his son, Gregary Roberts; daughter, Marietta Kendricks and husband, Wilbert S.; brother, James Roberts; grandchildren, Angela, Anthony, and Wilbert J.
