Darryl Wayne McCurrin

April 11, 1959 — July 12, 2025

Waco

Darryl Wayne McCurrin, 66, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 29, at Rosemound Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Snowden officiating.

Darryl Wayne McCurrin was born on April 11, 1959, in Mexia, Limestone County, Texas, to Letcher Lee (Pete) McCurrin, Jr. and Dora Jo Henderson McCurrin. He attended Waco ISD schools, beginning with Parkdale Elementary, then Crestview Elementary, Tennyson Junior High School, and Jefferson-Moore High School, from which he graduated in 1977.

Among his favorite classes were Distributive Education and Automotive Shop, taught by Harry Tooker. Mr. Tooker also sponsored the school’s Rodeo Club, where Darryl discovered his passion for bull riding. Tuesday nights were spent at Logan Huffman’s place on Chapel Road for Buckout practice. One memorable night, Darryl drew a notoriously tough bull named Skunk. He was bucked off, and Skunk landed on him with both back legs. Darryl spent the night in the hospital with bruised kidneys, but thankfully, nothing was broken.

Darryl was preceded in death by his father in 2002.

He is survived by his mother, Dora Jo McCurrin; daughter, Sarah Michelle McCurrin Bivins Hunt and her husband, Andy, of Plano, TX; and two granddaughters, Ella Christine and Audrey Elizabeth Hunt, also of Plano, TX. Survivors also include his brother, Neil Ray McCurrin of McGregor, TX; sister, Lee Ann McCurrin Radell and her husband, Scott Radell, of Waco, TX; and brother, Roger Dale McCurrin of Waco, TX. Darryl is also survived by nieces Amanda Elyse Coody Swennes and her husband, Alton Gordon Swennes, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Lauren Renee Radell Lemon and her husband, Joshua Phillip Lemon, of China Spring, TX; and Holly Dawn McCurrin Hamilton of Waco, TX. His great-niece, Freya Violet Swennes, and great-nephew, Everett Gordon Swennes, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, also survive him, as well as Dayne Hamilton of Waco, TX, and Travis Lee Lemon of China Spring, TX. He is further survived by his paternal uncle and aunt, L. Patrick and Nancy McCurrin of Corsicana, TX, and cousins by the dozens.

When Darryl was little, if you asked him when his birthday was, he’d proudly say, “April and two ones.”
