Daryl was born May 2, 1966, to Ladson Roscoe and Billie Louise Galloway Worley. He started his life in Stratford, Texas, before moving to Clovis, New Mexico, where he graduated from high school. After high school, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Howard Payne University, specializing in the arts. He began his teaching career at Groesbeck High School in Groesbeck, Texas, as a theatre teacher, where he met his wife of 31 years, Christa. After a brief time outside of education, working with the Temple Civic Theatre and in various sales positions, he obtained his Master of Arts degree from Baylor University and started working as an adjunct professor with Navarro College, a position he held until his passing. During this time, he obtained his Doctor of Education degree from Liberty University and loved being called “Dr. Worley.”
Daryl loved music (especially gospel), traveling, American history, gardening, refinishing furniture, writing, and studying family history and genealogy. His greatest love was his love for the Lord; he studied the Bible regularly and enjoyed sharing what he learned with others. He also cherished his large extended family and talked with them almost daily. He loved sharing his story of how the Lord helped him through his many trials. He was diagnosed with and battled leukemia, and he credited his survival solely to the Lord’s grace that guided his physicians and caretakers at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was a member of Hewitt First Baptist Church, where he often played the piano and organ for services and taught on Sunday mornings while his health allowed.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Ladson Roscoe Worley and Billie Louise Galloway Worley; his brothers, David Worley and Steve Worley; and his brother-in-law, Bob Young.
Survivors include his wife, Christa Shultz Worley, and son, Greerson Reid Worley, both of Waco, Texas; his sister, Sheryl Young of Edmond, Oklahoma; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Woody and Glynda Shultz of Normangee, Texas; his sister-in-law, Roxana Worley Caldwell and husband Paul of Conway, Arkansas; his sister-in-law, Carol Worley of Jenks, Oklahoma; and his brother-in-law, Stephen Shultz and wife Shanda of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Angie Worley Cate and husband Todd, Robin Young Linder and husband Kevin, B.J. Young and wife Alicia, Aaron Worley and wife Nikki, Jesse Rise, Rachel Worley, Tyler Shultz, Brenna Shultz, and Marshall Shultz, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
