Dixie Marcene Hazlewood Barton

Dixie Marcene Hazlewood Barton, age 98, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Dixie was born February 2, 1928, in Lott, Texas, to Charles Russell Hazlewood and Mary Bell Perteet Hazlewood.

She was married to Albert George Barton, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Rebecca Anne Smith, Mary J. Teakell, and James Albert “Jim” Barton.

Throughout her life, Dixie was a dedicated and hardworking woman. She was employed by American Amicable Life, Owens-Illinois Glass Plant, and later the City of Waco, from which she retired. She also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit many states across the continental United States, as well as Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and the Caribbean Islands creating cherished memories along the way.

Dixie also generously gave her time to her community. She was an active volunteer with the Providence Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed her involvement with the Waco Rose Society and the Waco Pond Society.

Dixie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert G. Barton; her son, James Albert “Jim” Barton; her parents, Charles Russell Hazlewood and Mary Bell Perteet Hazlewood; and her in-laws, Henry and Anna Barton; Brother In-law, Alton W. Barton and wife Frances.

She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Anne Smith and Mary J. Teakell and husband, Jay W. Teakell; her grandchildren, Kelly Smith Ingram and husband, Jeff; Scott M. Teakell and wife, Jade; Jaymie L. Teakell Howard and husband, Jerrad; her great-grandchildren, Jonah Teakell; Eli Teakell; Alice Howard; and one niece and two nephews.

Dixie lived a long and full life spanning more than nine decades and touching generations of her family. Her life, her memories, and the many years shared with those who loved her will remain a treasured part of her family’s story.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
