Doris (Hardy) Bowen, 92, a long-time resident of Waco, Texas, went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 13, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, December 13, in the Chapel, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
Doris was born to Charles Exter and Agnes (Jamerson) Hardy in Thomaston, Georgia, on April 3, 1933. Following the early deaths of their parents, she and her two siblings were raised by a special cousin’s family, providing love and a Christian heritage that continues to weave through the generations. She graduated high school from Berry School near Rome, Georgia, and went on to get an associate’s degree from Georgia Southwestern.
She worked at F&M Bank in Manchester, Georgia, while she dated and eventually married her husband William (Bill) Bowen. They had two daughters in Atlanta before moving to Bethany, Oklahoma, and subsequently Waco, Texas, which was their home for over 50 years. After raising her children, she worked for many years at United Bank/Chase Bank in Waco, Texas.
Doris devoted her life to creating a home, loving her family, and serving alongside her husband. Her kitchen was the center of her hospitality and the source of much joy. She loved playing bridge, family games and joined in with her sports-loving family. Her great sense of humor and southern drawl were beloved by all, through the time of her passing. She was a faithful follower of Christ who dearly valued the love of family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bill Bowen, her beloved sister, Betty (Hardy) Kellum, her cousin, Francis “Granny Frank” Pilkinton, and her parents, Charles Exter and Agnes Hardy.
Survivors include her daughter, Leigh Ann Alford and husband, Craig, of Bedford, Texas; her daughter Billie Korsunskiy and husband, Dmitry, of Midland, Texas; her cherished grandchildren, Hailey Alford and Jacob Alford; her brother, Charles Hardy, of Boynton Beach, FL; two nieces and two nephews.
