Eleanor Johnson Norton July 28, 1921 - July 20, 2006 Eleanor Norton of Waco passed away Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Regent Care Center to be with her beloved husband Carl and her Lord. Services will be at 11:30 a.m.Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel with the Rev. Pat Dietrich officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2006 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Eleanor was born July 28, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Edward Frank and Ethel Amalia Johnson. In August of 1950 this Chicago socialite captured and married a confirmed bachelor from New Mexico. She spent the next 20 years living around the world as a USAF officer’s wife. Eleanor was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl and daughter Carol Lynn. She is survived by her sons, Donald Norton and family, William Norton and family, daughter Nancy Norton Schumacher and family, one cousin Robert Johnson of Arkansas, grandchildren Lance Schumacher and family, Leigh Brown and family as well as 4 great grandchildren. She was devoted to her husband, his career in the Air Force and her family. She was generous with her time serving as a nurse’s aid with the American Red Cross, singing in the church choirs as well as being one of the first members of the Waco Civic Chorus. She gave freely to her Church and helped to begin the local Meals on Wheels program. She hosted many a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and was a patron of the Waco Symphony and the Hippodrome. Pallbearers are William Norton, Donald Norton, Lance Schumacher, Nik Schumacher, Matt Strong and Alan Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
