Jane Sachs Bounds

March 23, 1947 — October 18, 2025

Waco

Jane Sachs Bounds, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of the Waco community, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by family and love. Born in Waco, Texas, to Charlotte Feist and Aubrey Sachs, Jane’s deep roots in her hometown were reflected in every part of her life—from her family’s long-standing business, Sachs on Austin Avenue, to her decades of service to local schools, charitable organizations, and her synagogue community.

After graduating from Richfield High School and later from the University of Oklahoma—where she developed a lifelong love for the Sooners that became a cherished part of her identity—Jane returned to Waco to begin the next chapter of her life. In November of 1979, she married Daniel Bounds, with whom she built a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and enduring companionship.

A lifelong advocate for education and children, Jane was an active and passionate supporter of Waco ISD. She served as a dedicated member and president of both local and state PTA boards, contributed to numerous school advisory committees, and served on the boards of the WISD Education Foundation and the Youth Chorus of Central Texas. Her commitment to ensuring that every child had the opportunity to succeed extended beyond the classroom—most notably through her role as co-founder of the McLennan County Pack of Hope, an initiative that provides food to local students in need.

Her leadership and compassion touched every corner of the Waco community. Jane served in countless civic organizations, including the Friends of the Waco-McLennan County Library and the Greater Waco Interfaith Conference, always bringing her sharp mind, generous heart, and steadfast belief that one person can make a difference. She was also an active and devoted member of Temple Rodef Sholom, where she served in many capacities, including as past president, helping to sustain and strengthen both the congregation and the broader Jewish community in Waco.

Despite her many accomplishments, Jane’s favorite title was Mother. Her pride and joy was her daughter, Sally Johanna, whom she raised with boundless love, devotion, and unwavering support. Through the years, Jane became affectionately known as Mama Bounds to many of Sally’s friends and classmates—a reflection of her open heart and nurturing spirit. When Sally married Phillip Roscher, Jane was proud to gain a son who shared her love for Oklahoma Sooners football. Later in life, Jane embraced another treasured role: MomMom, the name she joyfully chose when she became a grandmother to Charlotte Jane and Weldon Aubrey. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and her presence remains deeply felt.

Jane was preceded in death by her father, Aubrey Sachs; her mother, Charlotte Feist Sachs; and her brother, Carl Harry Sachs.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Bounds of Waco; daughter, Sally Roscher and husband Phillip of Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Charlotte Jane and Weldon Aubrey; and other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring Jane’s remarkable life will be held on Wednesday, October 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Rodef Sholom, followed by a graveside service at Rodef Sholom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to McLennan County Pack of Hope or Temple Rodef Sholom.

Jane’s life was defined by service, community, and love. She believed in showing up, giving back, and making people feel seen. Her legacy will continue to ripple through every child she helped, every cause she championed, and every heart she touched.

The family invites you to leave a message or memory of Jane in her "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.
