Janie Lopez Moreno Duron died on July 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 17, 2026, at 1:30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Benjamin Magnaye officiating. The interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Janie was born to Ramon and Consuelo Lopez on January 6, 1933, in Malakoff, Texas.
Janie was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she served as a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, the Columbiettes, and as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She volunteered many hours of fundraising for Saint Francis and Sacred Heart Churches. Janie loved the Lord with all her heart; her faith was very strong.
Janie was one of the founders and Presidents of the Waco Missions Club Ladies Auxiliary, where she helped raise funds to build the club. She attended Durham’s Business School, where she received secretarial training. She was employed as an Executive Secretary by Word Inc., Owens Illinois, and the McLennan County Election Office. She also co-owned the Don Quixote Mexican Restaurant with her sister Carmen.
Janie was the family hostess, welcoming everyone to Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner, and other joyful occasions. She baked the best cakes and cookies and taught many how to make them. She genuinely loved her family, especially her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and made everyone feel special and welcome in her home. She was meticulous about her appearance and always dressed elegantly. Janie exercised every morning and evening “to keep her blood flowing.” She was very good with flowers and plants, and her yard was always beautiful. Janie lived her life to the fullest, prayed every day, and was very generous, always willing to host a family event. She is going to be really missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Alcario (Al) Moreno and Guadalupe Duron; brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond Lopez Jr. and Angie, Plutarco Jose Lopez and Mary, Vincent Lopez, Hope and Sofia, Isadore Lopez and Josephine; and sister Carmen Dominguez and husband Dan.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marilyn Ann Moreno Moore, and husband, Don; her grandsons, Raymond Clint Redding and Matthew Moreno Redding; her granddaughter, Natalie Redding Allen; and her great-grandchildren, Mia Jayne Redding, Liam James Allen, and Hudson Craig Allen; sister and brother-in-law, Connie Carrizales and Louis; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert Lopez and Lupe. She also had 32 cherished nieces and nephews, 85 Grand-Nieces and Grand-Nephews, 134 great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews, and 45 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, as well as several godchildren, the church, and community friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert “Bobby” Lopez, Vincent Lopez Jr., Isadore Lopez, Scott Green, Adrian Carrizales, Robert “Robbie” Lopez Jr., and honorary pallbearer Raymond Lopez III.
The family extends special thanks to her loving Hospice Caregivers, especially In-house Caregiver Dora Reyes.
