John Poston

October 9, 1944 — June 18, 2005

John Poston, 60, of Valley Mills, passed away on June 18, 2005 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey funeral home, with the Rev. Kay Hawkins, the Rev. Christie Robbins, and the Rev. Charles Rice officiating. Burial will follow at the Poston Family Cemetery in Mosheim. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 20 at the funeral home. He was born on October 9, 1944 and grew up in Bellmead, graduating from La Vega High School in l963. He thought a lot of his graduating class and also felt blessed to have remained close to them throughout his life. After high school he attained the rank of E-5 in the United States Marine Reserve. He also attended East Texas State University and Baylor University. He had a 24-year career with R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he was a senior national chain account manager. In 1993, he founded Ding-A-Ling Communications, Inc. He often said he wanted to have fun with his company, hence the name, and was also known to many as “Mr. Ding-A-Ling.” He was elected to the Board of the Texas Pay Phone Association in 2000. Mr. Poston enjoyed his community and was active in civic affairs, having served as a Boy Scout leader at Sparks Memorial United Methodist Church in Bellmead; president of the Katy TX Lions Club for two years, and president of the United Methodist Men at the United Methodist Church in Katy for three years. Since his return to Waco, he has been a member of First United Methodist Church of Valley Mills. Additionally, he loved the outdoors, especially recreational flying, tennis, and camping. He was preceded in death by his father, D. T. Poston, Jr. and nephew Madison T. Poston. He is survived by his mother, Ruth G. Poston; children, Stephanie Worrell and husband, Stace, Stacey Doss and husband, Don, and John W. Rusty Poston II, and step-son John Shappell; grandchildren, Hayden, Madyson, Baylee, Sarah, and Amanda; former wives, Charlotte Coffman Poston and Janett Neer Poston; sister, Beverly Castro; brothers, Don T. Poston and wife, Kitty, Douglas V. Poston and wife, Wanda, and Ronald G. Poston and wife, Pam; and by numerous loving nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Greg Taylor, Ron Spears, Lewis Osborne, Preston Kirk, David Kirk, and Jim Duckworth. Stephanie, Stacey, and Rusty, along with all the Poston family, wish to express their deepest gratitude to Greg Taylor, Dr. Anderson and staff, and Jennifer Deutschman and Wilma Justice of Providence Hospice.
