Johnnie began his career as a pharmacist in Lake Whitney, and shortly thereafter moved to Waco, where he worked for the locally owned Williams Drug in Southgate Center, which was later renamed as Eckerd Drug. He concluded his 60-year career as a relief pharmacist at Pharmacy Plus in Robinson, Texas. Johnnie was an avid sportsman enjoying playing racquetball and golf. He was an active member at St. Albans Episcopal Church and most recently at Highland Baptist Church.
