Marge Abbott, 87, of Waco, lost her battle with cancer Monday, December 8, 2025, at her home. She was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2007 and fought determinedly and gracefully to the end. A public memorial service will be planned at First Baptist Church of Waco at a later time.
Margie Maxine Cagle was born February 2, 1938, to Homer Cagle and Ora Mabel Lloyd in Catoosa, Oklahoma. She was the fifth of nine children, and her family moved to Georgetown, Texas when she was 14 years old. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1956, where she participated in student government, choir, and band as a majorette and drum major.
She met Stan Abbott at Glorieta Baptist Conference Center while at a Single’s Ministry Retreat on Labor Day, 1991. They married on March 14, 1992, in Glorieta, New Mexico.
Education was important to Marge, and she earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University on August 10, 1991. She was determined and proud that her children all graduated from college.
She worked in education at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, Santa Fe Community College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Wayland Baptist University in Glorieta, New Mexico.
She was a committed Christian and participated in the music, children’s, women’s, and singles’ ministries, and the administration of churches where she served in Burleson and Denton, Texas, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Waco, Texas. She was a devoted servant and ministered to people in her life for many years. During her fight with cancer, she loved and befriended her caretakers and was a constant source of strength and encouragement to those around her.
She is survived by her husband Stan, her children: Susan Nelson, and husband, Alan of Waco, Texas; Tony Innmon, and wife, Rocio Mata of Trophy Club, Texas; Amy Messer, and husband, Jerry of Crawford, Texas; Jeff Innmon of Dallas, Texas; Brandon Abbott, and wife Dorothy, of The Colony, Texas; and Rebecca Peevy, and husband, Alex of Paris, Texas. Marge is also survived by her grandchildren: Nick Nelson, Julia Cullens, and husband, Roger, Anthony Innmon, Adrian Innmon, Alexander Innmon, Jeff Innmon, Drew Innmon, Nick Messer, and wife, Lisa, Anderson Messer, and wife, Jennifer, Melissa Abbott, Gabriel Abbott, Emily Futral; and great-grandchildren: Tessa Cullens, Liam Cullens, Cristian Cullens, Casper Messer and Eliana Moreno. Marge is also survived by her sisters Velma Bruce, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Evelyn Hall, of Comanche, Texas.
Private family graveside service was held at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (mdanderson.org) or The Heathwell Foundation, (HealthwellFoundation).
