Mrs. Gutierrez was born December 10, 1955, in Waco and married Richard Lee Gutierrez on September 1, 1978. They met at the Piccadilly Cafeteria in Waco. She attended University High School and graduated in 1975. Mary went to MCC, where she earned her associates degree in nursing. Mary did what she did best, loving and taking care of others for 30 plus years as a beloved nurse. Mary enjoyed painting rocks and giving them to those she cared for. On most Saturdays, she could be found having breakfast at local restaurants before a day of thrift shopping at her favorite stores. Her family notes that she was known for her love of fishing and playing dominoes at gatherings. Mary also enjoyed working in her yard and adding to her rock garden. She had a strong love for Diet Dr. Pepper, and she drank it through her last days here on earth.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Harley Lee Vickrey and Dorothy Gilliam Vickrey.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; her youngest daughter, Andrea Webb and spouse, Sammie Webb of Speegleville; oldest daughter, Neita Bright and spouse, Howard Bright of Waco; two brothers, John Vickrey of Minnesota, and George Vickrey of Katy; and 5 grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Howard Bright, Isaac Bright, Jacob Bright, George Vickrey, and Harlan Hampton.
In honor of Mary, we invite everyone to wear one of her favorite colors - red or pink - to celebrate her beautiful spirit and the joy she brought to our lives.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Waco Humane Society.
The family invites you to leave a message or memory of Mary in her “Memorial Guestbook” at www.WHBfamily.com.
