Nancy Wallis McNamara Nancy Wallis McNamara died Tuesday, March 8, 2005at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, March 11 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with burial at Oakwood Cemetery. She was born December 2, 1918 in Waco, the daughter of Fritz and Nannye B. Wallis. She attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1936. She attended Fairmont College in Washington D.C. and Baylor University. She married John B. McNamara, Jr. on September 16, 1939 and they were lifelong residents of Waco. She was a member of Waco Junior League, Waco Literary Club and Friday Forum Book Club. She served on the Board of Directors of Earl Harrison House and Oakwood Cemetery. She served on various committees for the Waco Cotton Palace. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and served on the Alter Guild. She also served for years with the Meals on Wheels program. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. McNamara, Jr. She is survived by a son, John B. McNamara, III of Waco, a daughter Nancy McNamara Groover of Longview, a grandson John Carter Hicks of Waco, a sister Dorothy W. Abbott of San Antonio and sister-in-law Alice Harwell of Waco. Pallbearers will be Jim McDermitt, Roane Lacy, Jr., Bill McKinney, Bill Dietz, Parnell McNamara and Mike McNamara. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Dietz, Joe Ward, Roane Lacy, Pete Simmon and Harry Trippet. Nancy was fortunate to have dedicated caregivers who contributed to her care and comfort with love and respect and her family appreciates their tireless service.
