Philip Phelps passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2025, in Woodway, Texas, at the age of 48. He was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, partner, and friend—known for his strength, deep soul, and the quiet kindness he extended to those fortunate enough to truly know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2025, come and go at the Backyard Bar and Grill 511 S 8th St, Waco, TX 76706.
Born in Toledo, Oregon, on June 21, 1976, Philip grew into a man of resilience, depth, and compassion. He graduated from Beaverton High School in Beaverton, Oregon, in 1994, where he was a standout basketball player. He went on to play college basketball as a center on scholarship at both Lane Community College in Eugene and Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton. Though he left school before completing his degree, he later returned to finish his education—an achievement that reflected his quiet determination.
Philip continued to play basketball during his military service, representing the U.S. Army on the court— as a center, given his commanding 6’7” stature. He proudly served from September 16, 1998, until 2002, achieving the rank of Specialist (E-4), with his final duty assignment at AR RGT 3 HHT FC. (3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment operating as a Reconnaissance and Security force and was the last heavy armored cavalry regiment in the U.S. Army)
During his time in the Army, Philip was awarded several honors, including the Army Achievement Medal, Army Lapel Button, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Kosovo Campaign Medal. He carried the weight of his service with silent bravery, and even after leaving the military, he lived by the values of loyalty, sacrifice, and quiet strength.
He is survived by his mother, Jo Jeans of Oregon; his father, Ray Jeans; his sister, Stacee Keller, her husband Alan, and their son Aiden, all of North Dakota; and his stepson, Alex Leos.
He also leaves behind his devoted partner, Linda Robinson, who stood by him with love, healing, and friendship. Their time together was marked by shared dreams, quiet strength, laughter, and unwavering care. He brought joy, comfort, and a sense of completeness to her life that words cannot fully express.
Philip was known for his imposing presence—but even more so for the gentleness and loyalty that lived in his heart. He found solace in fitness, valued honesty, and possessed a quiet, witty sense of humor. His conversations were thoughtful, and his silences often spoke volumes. He faced life’s battles with courage and, every day, sought peace.
Those who loved him will remember the way he listened, the way he protected, and the way he struggled—but never gave up. His life was not defined by its hardships, but by the love he gave and the lives he touched.
