Waco

Shirley LaVerne Hollingsworth Frields went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 3, at the age of 89. Services will be at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Axtell, Texas, on Wednesday, June 10, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 9, from 5-7 p.m. at Wilkerson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco, Texas. Ron Durham, nephew, and Brother Lester Adams will be officiating; burial will follow at Dresden Cemetery in Barry, Texas. Music provided by her son-in-law, Charlie Burch.

Shirley was born on September 19, 1936, in Corbet, Navarro County, to Claude and Maudie (Swaner) Hollingsworth. She graduated from LaVega High School. Shirley and the love of her life, J. R., married on August 7, 1954, and celebrated 70 years of marriage, before his passing. She went to summer school 3 summers to be able to graduate early to get married. She retired from Axtell ISD with over 30 years as a paraprofessional. She loved the students and staff she worked with over the years. She was a long-time member of Spring Street Baptist Church and Concord Baptist Church.

Mama and Daddy were well known for their biscuits and gravy, which they shared often with family and friends over the years. It was by far our favorite meal. Their grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherished the time they spent being spoiled by their Nanny and Papa, a lifetime of love and memories they will hold forever.

She was preceded in death by her husband John (J. R.); parents Claude and Maudie; brothers, J. O., Claude (Dud), and Jimmy; several nephews and nieces.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Burch and husband, Charlie, of Robinson; daughter Pam Harrison and husband, Donnie, of Axtell; son John Frields Jr. and David Haun of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Brad Harrison and wife, Kameron; Chris Burch and Amy Arani; Heather Martinez and husband, Junior; Michael Harrison and wife, Shallie; eight great-grandchildren, Kate, Faith, A. J., and Kaylee Martinez; and Avery, Case, Reese, and Brooks Harrison; and numerous nephews and nieces and their families.

She was known by all as a kind, caring woman with a great heart. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, sister-in-law, Mama, Nanny, and friend. We are beyond

blessed to call her ours. She and Daddy were always willing to open their home to anyone that needed one. Over the years, they grew our family to include Babetta, Randy and Jeff.

Pallbearers are Brad and Michael Harrison, Chris Burch, Junior and A. J. Martinez, and Roger Frields.

Thank you to Wesley Woods Care Center for their loving care. We were blessed beyond measure.

Please feel free to wear jeans and your favorite color to celebrate a life well-lived!
