Steven Robert Mart was welcomed into his eternal home on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 39. A memorial service will be held at First Woodway Baptist Church on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 1:00PM.
Steven was born on July 24, 1986, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to Cheryl and Robert Mart. From the very beginning, he brought joy and kindness into the lives of all who knew him. He was known for his gentle spirit, sharp mind, and deeply compassionate heart. His life was truly rich with love.
Growing up, Steve delighted in friendship and shared many joyful years with his close-knit group of friends, affectionately known as the Magnificent Seven. Music played a significant role in his early life; he played the saxophone in concert band, marching band, and jazz band, experiences that nurtured his appreciation for creativity and teamwork.
Steven discovered both his professional calling and the love of his life, Karen Davis, while attending Baylor University. He married Karen while earning his advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering and he was joyfully welcomed into the wonderful Davis family. Together Steven and Karen built a beautiful life. They were proud and devoted parents to their children, Jonah and Lizzie.
Steven found great joy in travel and adventure and was always eager to explore new places, especially with Karen and the kids. He had a love for ocean waves and sandy shores and was rarely seen sitting on the sidelines. He spent his time at the beach or pool or park engaging with and loving on his kids. Steve also had a very special gift for smoking meat, a talent he delighted in sharing with his grateful family and friends.
A man of God, Steven was a beloved son and brother, a devoted husband, and a loving, patient father. Professionally, Steve was grateful to work with people he truly enjoyed and was proud to be a part of their collective amazing accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, G. Bonita and J. Kenneth Mart, and E. June and W. Donald Marien.
He is survived by his wife Karen Mart, and children, Jonah and Lizzie, who were the greatest joys of his life. He is also survived by his parents, Cheryl and Robert Mart; his sister, Lauren M. Mart, and her husband, Sean Harmon; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his memory. Steven’s kindness and quiet strength left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Steven faced a significant health challenge with extraordinary patience, courage, and grace. Never defined by his condition, he embraced each day with faith, resilience, gratitude, and love for those around him.
We take comfort in trusting that Steven is now fully healed and with Jesus, beginning new adventures and reunited with loved ones who went before him. Though he will be deeply missed, his love remains a guiding light and lasting gift.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be given to First Woodway Baptist Church for trees and landscaping on the new Fields project, which will provide a lasting memorial for Steven. Checks can be mailed to 101 Ritchie Rd, Waco, TX 76712 or online gifts may be given at firstwoodway.org/give/ with his name in the memo line.
