A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, at First Baptist Church Woodway. A reception will immediately follow at the church. Tommie will be buried in the Burleson-Samuels plot at Mt. Peak Cemetery, near Waxahachie, Texas. Tommie was born in Waxahachie, Texas, on March 4, 1936, to Tom and Chloe Smith. After graduating Waxahachie High School she married the love of her life and soul mate, Harold Samuels, on June 25, 1955. They shared 58 wonderful years together and raised three children. Most of their married years were spent living in Euless, Texas, where she served as the Mayor's wife and co-founder of Samuels & Associates, a lighting business, with her husband. They moved to Waco in 2006. Her hobbies included traveling with her husband, especially to San Francisco, attending her children and grandchildren's activities, and cooking for family and friends. She had a talent for decorating anything. She would tell you that her faith in Christ, her family and her friends were the three most important things in her life. Her Christian faith spilled over into every aspect of her life. Tommie was a gentle, kind and loving friend to all who knew her. Her husband and children were blessed by her daily. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Chloe Smith; and two brothers, Doyle and Don Smith. Tommie is survived by her husband, Harold Samuels; a son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Sherry Samuels of Prosper; son and daughterinlaw, Scott and Brenda Samuels of Euless; a daughter and son-in law, Carole and Jon Ellis of Woodway. She is also survived by grandchildren, Tamar Samuels Pierce and her husband, Brian, Amy Samuels Robinson and her husband, Drew, Laura Samuels, Mike Samuels, Jon Tyler Ellis and Hannah Ellis; two great grandchildren, Katelyn and Liam Pierce; sister, Joan and her husband, Chancy; and by dear nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful doctors and staff at Hillcrest Hospital and the earthly angels that cared for her through Hillcrest Hospice. Thank you also to her personal physician, Dr. Mike Olden. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a contribution to the Salvation Army, First Baptist Church Woodway or Mission Waco. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WilkirsonHatchBailey.com.
