Born on October 27, 1928, to Bertha (Birdie) Fischer Blume and Olive Blume in Waco, TX, Virginia passed away peacefully in her home on July 26, 2026, at the grand age of 97.
Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at St. John United Church of Christ with burial following at Robinson Cemetery.
Virginia lived in Robinson her entire life and was a life-long member of St. John United Church of Christ.
Graduating from Baylor University with both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, Virginia taught briefly in Clifton and Midway ISDs before having a 30-year career in Robinson ISD, mostly teaching 2nd grade. She was remembered as tough but fair and she always had interesting animals in her classroom.
She was the author of You, Your Child and Reading, wrote an educational column for the local newspaper, supervised student teachers for Baylor University and ran the Summer Reading Institute for over 20 years. In 2017 she was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of America.
She was active in her Church throughout her life and served as an officer for the Robinson Cemetery Association and Robinson Chamber of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Cotton; and her husband, of over 50 years, William (Bill) Wuebker.
She will be remembered with love by her children Robin Battershell and her husband Brian, Bonnie Wuebker, and Cardinal Wuebker and his wife Frances; her grandchildren Daniel Battershell and his wife Julie, daughters Adelia and Zinnia, Lauren Ridley and her husband Brian, daughters Eleanor and Lucille, Christopher Battershell, Raven Tineo and husband Drew and Breanna Wuebker.
Gifts in Virginia’s honor may be given to St. John United Church of Christ, 100 S. Robinson Dr, Robinson, TX 76706, or the Robinson Cemetery Association, 620 E. Stegall, Robinson, TX 76706.
